Hui o Nā Wai ʻEhā is excited to announce the creation of the Uncle Skippy Hau Scholarship for Native Hawaiians pursuing undergraduate and graduate college degrees. The scholarship is named in his honor as one of Hawaiʻi’s most committed and longest standing stream and water resource advocates. Uncle Skippy Hau is Hawaiian-Chinese, born and raised in Kāneʻohe, Oʻahu and moved to Maui in 1985. He graduated from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and has been an aquatic-marine biologist for over 30 years with the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR). Uncle Skippy is passionate about his work and has educated thousands of students on Maui about the importance of protecting our streams, oceans and native aquatic and marine species. Hui o Nā Wai ʻEhā considers Uncle Skippy as someone who truly lives and breathes aloha ʻāina. We appreciate all that he has done and continues to do for Maui’s natural and cultural resources.
